WILLIAM THOMAS NEWITT was born in January, 1849.

After having been in the service of the Electric and International Telegraph Company, he became connected with the Anglo-Mediterranean Telegraph Company in 1868.

Finally he served in various capacities under the Eastern Extension Telegraph Company, and at the time of his death, which occurred whilst on furlough in England, on the 8th of April, 1898, he was general superintendent for that company at Madras.

Mr. Newitt was elected a Member on the 14th of February, 1877.
