Robert Aspland Marillier (1825-1903) M.Inst.C.E., Resident Engineer to the Hull Dock Co.
1825 August 26th. Born in Harrow the son of James William Marillier, Professor of Modern Languages, and his wife Sarah Middleton Aspland.
1881 Living at Newland Road, Cottingham, Yorks.: Robert Aspland Marillier (age 55 born Harrow-on-the-Hill), Civil Engineer. With his wife Emma Marillier (age 42 born Blackburn). Also wife's daughter Emma Louise Robinson (age 18 born Gainsborough). Two servants.[1]

News reached Scarborough this morning of the death, at the age 78 years, of Mr. Robert Aspland Marillier, Holbeck Hurst, Scarborough.
He was a civil engineer by profession, and went as a young man to Hull as engineer to the Hull Waterworks. In the early sixties he became engineer to the old Hull Company, a position filled for 30 years, up to the transference of the docks to the North-Eastern Railway Company.
Mr. Marillier personally superintended the construction of the Sir Wm. Wright Dock and the St. Andrew's Dock, as well other important works. He went to live in Scarborough about 1886, and ten years later entered the Town Council Liberal. He was Mayor of Scarborough in the Diamond Jubilee year, laid the foundation stone of the new Marine Drive, and entertained the Colonial troops on their visit to Scarborough. He was a justice of the peace for the borough and for the North Riding, and had seat on the North Riding County Council. He was also president the Liberal Association last year.
Mr. Marillier had been wintering at Torquay, and died there last evening.
