John Aird and Co, a leading British civil engineering business based in London.

1895 when Charles Lucas died, the Lucas and Aird businesses were reorganised again as:

1898 Aird offered to accept a deferred payment for the Aswan Dam and Asyut barrage in order to improve irrigation and control on the Nile. As a result the firm was awarded the contract for these barrages.

Further contracts for raising the Aswan Dam and building the Esna barrage followed.

1901 John Aird was knighted - the firm became Sir John Aird and Co
