Henry Crabtree
Henry Crabtree (1837-1881)
1882 Obituary [1]
. . . the eldest son of Mr. Matthew Crabtree, of Leeds, and one of a family most of whose members are connected with the railway interest. He began his career with the Great Northern Company. He was early appointed their agent at Leeds, and rapidly rose to the position of District-Superintendent, and in 1863 was put in charge of the London section of the line.
In 1865 he was appointed general manager of the Northampton and Banbury Junction Railway, and two years later was selected for the important post of general manager of the Northern Railway of Buenos Ayres. This was at a time when the railway was labouring under difficulties, and Mr. Crabtree succeeded in substantially improving the position of the company. The official estimation of his services was agreeably shown by the presentation to him by the directors of a sum of £1,000. In addition to his appointment with the Northern Railway, Mr. Crabtree accepted the management of the Buenos Ayres and Ensenada Port Railway, and he held these two appointments up to the date of his demise. . .
