Born at Cowes the son of Edward Brown, Master Mariner.

1911 Living at Balhousie, East Cowes, Isle of Wight: Arthur Edward Brown (age 58 born Cowes), Retired Locomotive Engineer-in-Chief of the Ceylon Government Railway. With his wife Helen, one daughter and one son.[1]

1922 Died. 'The funeral of Mr. A. E. Brown, of East Cowes, former superintendent of railways in Ceylon, took place very quietly at Whippingham yesterday. Canon Judkins (Rector) officiating. The chief mourners were deceased's daughters and two sons, and Messrs. W. and E. Brown (brothers)'[2]
