1970 Mr A. T. B. Shand was chairman of Lehane, Mackenzie and Shand[1]

1974 Subsidiaries of Lehane, Mackenzie and Shand included:[2]

1976 Selection Trust acquired 90 percent of Alexander Shand (Holdings), a group of private companies involved in open cast coal mining[3]

1980 Selection Trust was acquired by BP

1981 The business was taken over by Charter Consolidated in a deal worth £24.8 million. Prior to that Shand was a wholly-owned subsidiary of BP and was involved in open-cast coal mining, as well as building, civil and mechanical engineering, quarrying, plant hire and the sale and servicing of plant for the mining industry.[4]

1987 Company in liquidation[5]

1989 Management buyout of Morrison Construction including 2 unsuccessful Charter civil engineering businesses - Shand and Bigs Wall[6]
