NCB Central Engineering Establishment

From Graces Guide

of Bretby

1954 National Coal Board set up its central engineering establishment at Bretby. Its main purpose was to develop new coal mining machines and techniques and to improve existing methods and techniques. It also was involved in preparation of technical specifications and designs of new machines to enable alternative sources of manufacture to be exploited and carry out acceptance trials of mining machinery in the prototype and production stages.

Later became the Mining Research and Development Establishment.
