Manchester Oxford Road Railway Station

From Graces Guide

A railway station in Manchester used by the Cheshire Lines Committee.

By 1876 it was recognized the company was at a disadvantage competing for Liverpool traffic, in consequence of a lack of station accommodation. Accordingly a new Central Station was built to serve the Liverpool line.

The railway crossed Oxford Road by a fine cast iron bridge. This has been replaced by something much more bland. 1934 photo of original bridge here, supported by the premises of the Oxford Rubber Co.[1]
