1869 Bought the brewery

1911 Living at The Larches, New Bedford Road, Luton: John William Green (age 64 born Luton), Brewery Director. With his wife Mary Anne Green, one daughter and son Harold Philip Green (age 33 born Luton), Brewery Director.[1]

1932 Died. 'The town of Luton has suffered a severe loss by the death Tuesday of Mr. J. W. Green, J.P., at the age of eighty-five, head of the well-known brewery that bears his name. He bought the business in 1869 and under his direction it developed with the town and in the course of time absorbed number of other breweries in the district. The acquisition of the brewery of Morris and Co. at Ampthill in 1926 brought the number of houses owned by Messrs. Green up to about 250. Besides being successful business man, Mr. Green lived a life of active public service. In earlier years he was prominent in municipal and political circles, he was a member of the first Bedfordshire County Council, and he had served as High Sheriff. was a Churchman and Mason and did much philanthropic work. Mr. Green survived by four daughters and a son, Lt.-Col. Harold P. Green.'[2]
