ALFRED GEORGE STRONG was connected with one firm, Messrs. H. O. Strong and Sons, Ltd., Norfolk Works, Bristol, during the whole of his professional career, from his apprenticeship, which began in 1888, until his death, which occurred on 7th February 1940, in his sixty-sixth year.

He received his engineering education at the Merchant Venturers' Technical College, Bristol, and the City and Guilds Engineering College. His chief work was among gas and oil engines and he gained considerable experience in experimenting and testing during 1895 at Messrs. Crossley Brothers' works at Openshaw. He became partner in his father's firm in 1897 and managing director on the formation, in 1906, of the present company. Mr. Strong was made chairman of the company in 1925, on the death of his father.

Travelling widely on the Continent and in North America in connection with his business, he introduced important inventions to the paper and cardboard-working trades. He also contributed various articles to the technical. press.

Mr. Strong was elected a Graduate of the Institution in 1898, and was transferred to Associate Membership in 1900, and to Membership in 1916.
