1882 The Wrexham Lager Beer Co was founded by 2 German immigrants who tried to recreate their native drink in their new home in Wales.
After failing to make a drinkable lager, they were offered assistance by a local industrialist Robert Graesser who introduced mechanical refrigeration, thereby achieving an appropriate temperature for the fermentation.
Still facing competitive pressures, Graesser took full ownership of the Wrexham Lager Brewing Company and targetted the export market under the Wrexham Lager ‘Ace of Clubs’ brand. Wrexham Lager was sold throughout the British Empire.

1949 The company was bought by Ind Coope.
Ind Coope eventually merged with Ansells and Tetley Walker to become Allied Breweries.
1992 Allied merged with Carlsberg who ran the brewery for a few years.
2000 The brewery closed.
