William Wilkinson of William Wilkinson and Co, Holme House Foundry, Wigan, was a general engineer.

c. 1838 Born in Patricroft[1] or Eccles[2]

1871 William Wilkinson 33, Engineer and iron founder, employing 10 men and 10 boys, lived in Wigan with Elizabeth B Wilkinson 34, William H Wilkinson 10, Louisa Wilkinson 8, and his niece Ellen Wilkinson 13[3]

1879 Elizabeth Barker Wilkinson died in Wigan[4]

1880 Married Harriet Mills in Lytham[5]

1880 Designed a locomotive with a vertical boiler

1881 W. Wilkinson 43, managing director of an engine works, lived in Wigan, with Hannah Wilkinson 38, Louisa Wilkinson 18[6]

1884 William Wilkinson joined the I Mech E

1886 Resigned from I Mech E

1891 William Wilkinson 53, mechanical engineer, lived in Wigan, with Harriet Wilkinson 48, Louisa Wilkinson 28[7]

1896 Harriet Wilkinson died in Wigan[8]
