William Walter Townsend (1881- )
1922 Member of Council Inst.Gas.E., Engr. and General Manager, Colchester Gas Co.; District Secretary of National Gas Council and Employers' Federation; b. 1881;„ s. of H. Townsend, M.Inst.C.E. Ed. Plymouth Grammar Sch., and Leeds Secondary Sch. Training: Wakefield Gasworks and various Eng. Works. Asst. Manager, Wakefield Gas Co. and Colombo Gas Co.; Works Manager, Warrington Gasworks; Engr. and Manager, Hereford Gasworks; carried out Extensions at all the above Works. At Colchester, complete scheme of modernization, including reinforced concrete piles and foundations, coke bunkers carried on piles, coal breaker pit in reinforced concrete below tidal level; coal and coke handling machinery, electric power plant, purifiers, etc. Papers on "Gas Fitting Work," and on "Water Gas," read to District Gas Assocs.
