William Walter Tonks (1864-1926) of Hearl and Tonks

1864 Born in Birmingham[1], the son of William Tonks, a gunsmith[2]

1885 December 6th. A gunsmith, married in Birmingham to Jennie Dewell

1891 Living at 273 Bolton Road, Deritend: William Tonks (age 26 born Birmingham), Cycle Manufacturer. With his wife Jennie Tonks (age 27 born Birmingham) and their four children; Alfred Tonks (age 4 born Birmingham); Clara Tonks (age 3 born Birmingham); Charles Tonks (age 2 born Birmingham); and Annie Tonks (age 7 months born Birmingham).[3]

1892 Set up Hearl and Tonks

1901 Cycle manufacturer, employer, lived in Handsworth with Jenny Tonks 36, Alfred Tonks 14, worker, cycle manufacturer, Clara Tonks 13, Charles Tonks 12, Arthur Tonks 9, George Tonks 7, Irene Tonks 6, William Tonks 4, Nora Tonks 4, Jenny Tonks 3, Stanley Tonks 1[4]

1907 William Walter Tonks, 133 Roebuck Lane, Smethwick, in the county of Stafford, out of employment, formerly a cycle manufacturer, was bankrupt[5]

1911 Living at 14 Ethel Cron Street, Barton-on-Humber: William Tonks (age 46 born GB), Works Manager, Cycles - Employer. With his wife Jennie Tonks (age 46 born GB) and their nine children; Arthur Tonks (age 19 born GB); George Tonks (age 18 born GB); Irene Tonks (age 16 born GB); William Tonks (age 14 born GB); Nora Tonks (age 14 born GB); Jennie Tonks (age 13 born GB); Stanley Tonks (age 12 born GB); Robert Tonks (age 8 born GB); Molly Tonks (age 6 born GB); and Millie Tonks (age 4 born GB).[6]

1911 Jennie Tonks died in Glanford Brigg, Lincs[7]

1915 Married Gertrude M James in King's Norton[8]

1923 Gertrude Maud Tonks (Wife of William Tonks), residing at 474 Belchers Lane, Bordesley Green, and carrying on business at 48 Princip Street, both in the city of Birmingham, cycle framemaker, was bankrupt[9]

1926 Died in Birmingham[10]
