WILLIAM WALKER HOOD died on March 23, 1923. He met his death by falling from a train. He was a well-known Welsh coal-owner, and was the son of the late Mr. Archibald Hood, a prominent figure in the Welsh coal trade.
He succeeded his father as managing director of the Glamorgan Coal Co., and as director of the Barry Railway Company and the Vale of Glamorgan Railway.
Although the family connection on a large proprietary scale with the Welsh coal trade seems to have ceased with the transfer of the Glamorgan Company to the Cambrian Combine, he continued his active association with the industry, and remained on the Conciliation Board, to which he had belonged ever since its formation. In addition he possessed considerable mining properties in Scotland, which he inherited from his father.
He was elected a member of the Iron and Steel Institute in 1894.
