WILLIAM TOM GOOLD served his time in the works of Cater, Walker and Son of Southwark, and gained two years' experience as draughtsman with the same firm.
In 1882, at the age of twenty-three, he entered the service of Mr. T. C. R. Okes, Consulting Engineer in the City, subsequently becoming manager to the same gentleman.
He afterwards moved to Gloucester where, for a period of about twenty-five years, he practised as Consulting Engineer and represented various leading machine-tool makers and engineers.
In addition he was Managing Director of the Shillingford Works, Oxford. Mr. Goold was particularly interested in the manufacture and improvement of steam traps, and also patented a calculator for belting measurements.
He died on 8th November 1926 at Budleigh Salterton.
He became a Member of this Institution in 1889.
