1965 Obituary [1]
Mr William L. Batt (Hon. Member), who was connected with the moves towards unification of standards for mechanical details between this country and the USA, died recently, aged 80.
Mr Batt had been closely associated with this Institution through the American Society of Mechanical Engineers which he served in a number of offices, including its Presidency in 1936. He was also an Honorary Member of ASME.
For many years President of the SKF Ball Bearing Co., Mr Batt maintained close links with Sweden and for his services to that country he was twice honoured by King Gustav. His work for the Allied cause was outstanding, he served on the Harriman Mission to Moscow and was Vice-President of the War Production Board of America.
