It is with regret we record the death on the 27th ult., at the age of 62, of Mr. William Kitson, formerly of the Great Eastern Railway.
Mr. Kitson became connected with the Great Eastern - then the Eastern Counties Railway in the year 1844, and remained in the service of the company until 1866, in which latter year he succeeded Mr. Robert Sinclair as locomotive superintendent. A strict disciplinarian but always kind and just to those whom he controlled, Mr. Kitson earned the sincere regard and respect of all who served under him.
On leaving the Great Eastern Railway Mr. Kitson became the London representative of Messrs. Kitson and Co., of Leeds, but for some time previous to his death he had retired from active business, his health being far from good.
The late Mr. Kitson, who was the brother of Mr. James Kitson, the well-known locomotive builder of Leeds, and of Mr. Thomas Kitson, the locomotive superintendent of the Great Luxembourg Railway, was widely known and respected in the railway world, and his death will be sincerely regretted by a large circle of friends.
