1836 William Hodson of Little Bridge Street was summoned for offences against the Factories Act, and was fined £8 plus costs. He was one of many mill owners charged in that era with similar offences, typically involving employing children for more than 9 hours, employing children without school certificates, not whitewashing the walls, and unsatisfactory record-keeping.
1839 'WM. HODSON PRESENTS his grateful acknowledgements to all those who so successfully exerted themselves extinguishing the fire which took place in his Mill, on Tuesday evening. Also to Messrs. Ormrod and Hardcaslle, for so speedily sending their Fire Engine to assist on the occasion. Little Bridge, Bolton, Feb. 7th, 1839.
