William Denny, Junior (c1816-1854) of William Denny and Brothers
c1816 Born the son of William Denny
In business for several years as shipwright, then naval architect
William had been chief draughtsman in the Belfast, Northern Ireland, yard of Coats and Young before he was appointed yard manager at Messrs. Napier’s shipbuilding yard at Govan in 1842.
1843 Went to America
1844 Returned from America. With his brothers Alexander and Peter, he formed a partnership as naval architects under the name of Denny Brothers, and found plenty of employment.
1849 Denny Brothers was dissolved and William Denny and Brothers formed.
1851 Living at West Bridgend, Cardross, Dumbarton (age 35), Shipbuilder employing 300 men. With wife Mary (age 27) and children Mary (age 2) and Christina (age 6 months). Two servants. [1]
c1854 William died
1900 Mary Cumming Denny, of Dumbarton, died[2]
