1814 William Denny formed a partnership for steamship construction, located in Dumbarton, West Dunbartonshire, Scotland, with Archibald McLachlan.
1814 William Denny built the first steamer to ply the Thames the Majory.
c1816 Birth of son William (he later formed William Denny and Brothers, and died in 1854)
c.1818 Birth of son James Denny
1818 Built Rob Roy for David Napier (perhaps with Napier's engine?). William was, for a time, manager to Archibald M'Lachlan, at the Woodyard, Dumbarton, and ultimately succeeded to the business there. The precise date when the business was transferred is not known.
c1819 Birth of son Alexander Denny.
1821 October 25th. Birth of sixth son Peter Denny[1]
c1825 Birth of Archibald Denny
1826 Built the 'Sir John Moore', the first paddle steamer to ferry passengers, for James Atherton from New Brighton in 1834

He lived at Woodyard House, Dumbarton, Scotland
