"WILLIAM DAVID DAVIES had a long connection with the motor industry, extending to fully half a century, and had been head of the firm of Messrs. W. D. Davies and Son, consulting engineers and damage assessors, of Swansea, for more than thirty years.
He had also gained considerable experience in general mechanical engineering. He was born in 1868 and received his theoretical education at Dr. Morgan's Laboratory in Swansea. After four years' practical training, beginning in 1881, with Messrs. Shorewood and Company, Ltd., and various other engineering firms in Llanelly, his services were retained by Messrs. Shorewood as manager with whom he remained for ten years. From 1900 to 1904 he was engineer to Messrs. Mills, English and Company, general engineers, and in the latter year he became a partner in the firm of Morgan and Davies, consulting engineers, of Swansea, and concurrently acted as engineer salesman for the West Wales Motor Car and Engineering Co.
In or about the year 1910 he established the firm of Messrs. W. D. Davies and continued to be actively engaged until the close of his career, some thirty years later. Mr. Davies, whose death occurred on 17th February 1948, was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1911."
