William Darling (c1828-1901) of Darling, Brown and Sellers‎ and Darling and Sellers‎

1841 Living at Stone Row Leeds (age c15), an Apprentice Mechanic. In house of William Leeming (age c75). [1]

1851 A lodger at Low street, Keighley (age 23 born Leeds), a Mechanic (employing 6 men). In the house of Richard Sowden. [2]

c1857 Birth of John William Darling

1861 Living at Hope street, Keighley (age 33 born Leeds), a Tool Maker, Firm darling and Sellers, employing 6 men and 12 boys. With his wife Mary (age 27 born Keighley) and their children Mary Selina (age 4 born Keighley), John William (age 4 born Keighley) and Sarah Florence (age 2 born Keighley). Also two visitors with the surname Darling. [3]

1891 Living at 24 Devonshire Street, Keighley (age 63 born Leeds), a Machine Tool Maker. With his wife Mary (age 57 born Keighley) and their children Sarah Florence (age 32 born Keighley) and Albert (age 29 born Keighley), a Mechanic. Also his Brother-in-Law Joseph heather (age 48 born Keighley), a cripple from childhood. [7]

1901 Living at 24 Devonshire Street, Keighley (age 73 born Leeds), a Retired Machine Tool Maker. With his wife Mary (age 67 born Oakworth) and their children Sarah F. (age 42 born Keighley) and Albert (age 39 born Keighley), a Machine Tool Maker, Employer and Single. One servant. [8]

Obituary 1901 [9][10]

"...Darling, one of the founders of the firm of machine-tool makers, Darling and Sellers, Limited, Keighley. Mr. Darling was born in March, 1828. After battling courageously with failing health during the greater portion of last year, and suffering the amputation of a leg 10 October, he passed away somewhat suddenly from heart seizure on Saturday, the 8th inst. The deceased gentleman as a boy served under his father on a small trading vessel plying along the east coast, and many were the stirring stories he could tell of those days. The sea, however, was not destined to hold him long, for, in 1844, at the age of sixteen, he commenced his apprenticeship to the engineering trade in the works...[More].
