William Cadell, Junior (1737–1819) of the Carron Co and Cramond Iron Works

1737 Born the son of William Cadell, Senior of Prestonpans and Cockenzie, shipmaster, merchant, industrialist, who was also a founding partner of the ironworks which later became Carron Co
The Cadell family played a key role in the development of a coke-fired iron industry in Scotland on a large scale in the last two decades of the eighteenth century.

1769 Charles Gascoigne took over the management of the works from William Cadell, Junior
1770 The works became Carron Co
1770 October. The Cadells exchanged their Carron Co shareholding for the Cramond Iron Works where Thomas Edington was manager.
1771 Advertisement. Steel, Nails, Iron-hoops, Rod-iron and rolled-iron. Manufactured and sold in wholesale, at moderate prices, by William Cadell, Junior and Co. Either at Carron-park or Crammond. [1]
1773 Married Katherine (d. 1797), daughter of Archibald Inglis of Auchendinny, with whom he had five sons and one daughter. Through his marriage he gained a mill at Auchendinny which took him into manufacture of high-quality paper.
1775 Announcement concerning the Pottery at Prestonpans and the late William Cadell, Junior. [2]
William became a coal and ironmaster, first at Cramond, and then at Grange near Bo'ness.
Cadell became a founder partner in the Muirkirk Iron Works and the Clyde Iron Works.
1790 William Cadell, Junior opened the first nail making centre in Camelon [3].
By the end of his life Cadell had limited his interests to Cramond and Grange.
1819 He died on 17 September 1819.
