WILLIAM AUGUSTUS HARRIS was born at Jamaica on 6th December 1875, and received training as a mechanical and electrical engineer, first under Mr. James Peet in Trinidad, and subsequently with Messrs. George Fletcher and Co., engineers, of Derby.
He then returned to Trinidad and became assistant mechanical and chief electrical engineer to the New Colonial Co. in 1904. He also acted as mechanical engineer to the St. Lucia Usines and Estates Co., owners of two sugar factories in St. Lucia, and in 1910 was appointed Boiler Examiner by the Government of Trinidad. In addition, he held appointments as consulting engineer to various sugar companies.
His death took place at St. Lucia on 13th December 1921, at the age of forty-six.
He became an Associate Member of this Institution in 1912.
