William Arthur Oubridge (1880-1942), founder of the British Piston Ring Co

1880 Born in Hornsey

1894-7 Apprenticed at T. Noakes and Son, Brick Lane, London

1898 Apprenticed with J. Lock, Farringdon Road, London

1898-1900 Draughtsman with Dickinson Sword Co, Chelsea

1901-3 Assistant to Prof. R. H. Smith, consulting engineer

1903-06 Draughtsman with Ludwig Loewe and Co, London

1904 Married Jessie Barnes in Hackney

1906-09 Chief draughtsman with Premier Cycle Co, Coventry

1909-16 Works manager with Duplex Tube Co, Coventry

1909 Founded the British Chuck and Tool Co[1]

He designed and patented a range of ingenious machinery and equipment. He also designed specialized components, including cylinder liners for engines, ideally manufactured by the centrifugal casting process for which he obtained several patents.

His son V. W. Oubridge succeeded him as managing director and W. N. Lindley took on the chairmanship.

William Arthur Oubridge was born in 1880 and apprenticed to engineering with Noakes and Co., of London.

In 1905 he became Chief Engineer at the Premier Cycle Co., Coventry, and in 1911 founded the British Piston Ring Co., with which he was connected to the time of his death.

He died on 2nd January, 1942, at the age of 61.

He was elected a Member in 1934.
