1879 A trademark was registered for the Claymore brand of Highland malt whisky.
1882 The blending and bottling company began by whisky merchants James Whyte and Charles Mackay, the company later owning the Claymore brand.
Whyte and Mackay Special Reserve was their first blended whisky and it was successful in the United Kingdom and other English speaking countries around the world.
After World War II they focused on the home market.
2007 In May Whyte and Mackay was acquired by the United Breweries Group of India.
2008 The group owns five malt distilleries, a grain distillery and bottling and packaging facilities in Scotland, selling nine million cases a year.
The company's brands include Whyte and Mackay Blended Scotch Whiskies', Dalmore Single Malt, Isle of Jura Single Malt, Fettercairn Single Malt, Glayva Scotch Liqueur, and Vladivar Vodka.
