Whorlton Suspension Bridge
Crosses the River Tees at Whorlton, near Greta Bridge, County Durham.
Completed in 1831. Designed by John Green. It is claimed to be the oldest suspension bridge in Britain which relies on its original chains. (Note: The older Union Chain Bridge has its original chains, but these are backed up by a separate system of cables and hangers which come into play in the event of failure of the original system).
