1872 Company incorporated as the Western Electric Manufacturing Company, making a variety of products including typewriters, alarms, and lighting; supplied Western Union with relays and other equipment.

1875 Western Union bought an interest in the company

1879 The Bell Telephone Company won a legal battle over rights to the telephone when Western Union withdrew from the telephone market

1881 Bell Telephone Company acquired Western Electric.

1883 Established an agency in London to sell its telephones - see Western-Electric Co

1885 The American Telephone and Telegraph Co was incorporated which owned, amongst other interests, Bell Telephone Company

1925 the U.S. government put pressure on the American Telephone and Telegraph Co to divest its overseas operations, which included International Western Electric Co, a European-based manufacturer of telephonic equipment.

1925 International Telephone and Telegraph Corporation acquired the International Western Electric Co's operations outside the USA
