West Auckland Bridge
1823 First cast-iron bridge. Designed by R. Storey for the Stockton and Darlington Railway between Etherley down incline and Brusselton up incline.
Extant in 1901. [1]
It crosses the Grannless, a tributary of the Wear, on four spans of about 13 ft each. The columns are stepped on wood balks laid on the bed of the stream.
Mr. Thomas Cabury had charge of the erection of the bridge, and of two stationary engines at Bruselton and Etherley.
