"WALTER PATTISON DOUGLAS, who was born in 1888, received his general education at Trinity College, Glenalmond, and his technical training at Durham Technical College and the Dundee Technical Institute.
His apprenticeship was served with Messrs. Clarke, Chapman and Company, Ltd., of Gateshead, from 1906 to 1909, and with Messrs. W. A. Douglas and Company, Ltd., of Dundee, from 1909 to 1910. After three years' experience at the Industrial Motor Works of Messrs. Cooper and Greig, Dundee, where he was first employed as assistant and later as shop foreman, he proceeded to the Malay States to take up an appointment as erector to Messrs. United Engineers.
In 1915 he began a connection with the Singapore Harbour Board which lasted for nearly thirty years, in the course of which he filled successively the positions of assistant superintendent engineer, works manager, and finally superintendent engineer.
Mr. Douglas, whose death occurred in an internment camp on 23rd November 1944, was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1927."
