Vernon Kitchen
of Victoria Foundry, 24 Oxford Street, St Peters, Manchester
1841 Vernon Kitchen, iron founder & ironmonger, 265 Deansgate [1]
1847 Partnership "if any" between Vernon Kitchen, Iron founder, and John Adams, Ironmonger, dissolved [2]
1850 Vernon Kitchen listed in Slater’s Manchester & Salford Directory as iron and brass founders and iron fencing and palisading manufacturers
The 1849 O.S. map [3] shows the Victoria Foundry’s buildings and yard occupying an area of approximately 160 ft by 100 ft on the north western corner of the junction of Oxford Street and Chepstow Street. Immediately behind (west) was a branch of the Rochdale Canal, which separated the foundry from Chepstow Street Mills.
Adshead's 1851 map clearly shows two distinct groups of buildings on opposite sides of a yard at the location desribed as 'Victoria Foundry' on the 1849 map. Kitchen’s Foundry' seems to dominate, but two small buildings in the yard are labelled 'Gordon’s Brass &c Foundry' [4]
Presumed to have been succeeded by Kitchen, Brown
