The original bridge was erected by The Scarborough Valley Bridge Co and it was opened as a toll bridge in July 1865.

The present day Valley Bridge is a road bridge in Scarborough built 1926-28 by John Butler Iron Works and Coode, Fitzmaurice, Wilson and Mitchell.
