Torridge Bridge, Bideford
This bridge over the river Torridge was built in the 13th century originally in timber, then rebuilt in the 15th century in stone. Each of the spans is a different length owing to the difference in oak beam lengths of the initial timber structure. The timber bridge was used as scaffolding for the masonry rebuild and the wood timbers are now enclosed within the stone structure.
