1748 'A Grant has passed the Great Seal unto Thomas Wilford of Manchester, Chapman, of his new-invented Machine, or Engine, for intermixing of Threads, Cords, or Thongs, of different Kinds, commonly called plaiting, for fourteen Years.' [1]
