Thomas Simpson, waterworks engineer

Thomas Simpson (c.1754-1823)

1785 Simpson helped establish a small company to supply parts of Southwark and Vauxhall with water; erected pumping-engines on the south side of the Thames near Charing Cross Bridge.

Appointed engineer of the Chelsea Waterworks, where he lived.

1799 Birth of son James Simpson

Later also appointed as engineer of the Lambeth Waterworks Company

Father of 6 sons, including James Simpson and William Simpson (1809-1864)

1823 May. Died. Resident engineer of the Chelsea Waterworks for 41 years. [1]
