1839 Born the son of James Bennie (1803-1877)

1851 Living at Duke street, Dunoon: James Bennie (age 48 born Rathmell, Lanarkshire), Iron Founder. With his wife Lilias Bennie (age 45 born Shotts, Lanarkshire) ad their four children; Robert Bennie (age 22 born Glasgow), Iron Founder; Thomas N. Bennie (age 11 born Glasgow); Jane Bennie (age 11 born Glasgow); and Eliza Bennie (age 6 born Glasgow). One servant.[1]

1866 THOMAS NEWTON BENNIE (now Shipbuilder in Middleborough), ceased by mutual consent to be a Partner of the Firm of James Bennie and Co, Engineers and Ironfounders in Glasgow on the 1st day of May 1866. The business of the Company will be carried on under the same Firm by the remaining Partners, James Bennie, and James Bennie, Junior.

1881 Thomas N. Bennie 41, engineer or mechanic, lived in West Derby, Lancs., with Isabella Bennie 40, Isabella J. Bennie 17, Alfred F. S. Bennie 14, James H. T. Bennie 12, Lilias Clarinda Bennie 2[2]
