THOMAS INSTONE was appointed in 1870 engineer and assistant manager at the Selly Oak Works of the Elliott Metal Company, Birmingham, ultimately coming to London as their representative and continuing with this firm for twenty-three years.
In 1893 he was engaged in a similar capacity by Messrs. George Salter and Company, West Bromwich, with whom he remained until his retirement in 1911.
Mr. Instone was born at Wolverhampton in 1844, and after his education was completed, entered the Old Park Works of Messrs. Lloyds Fosters and Company, Wednesbury (later incorporated with the Patent Shaft and Axletree Company). During his apprenticeship he was engaged on work for the Blackfriars roadway bridge across the Thames.
Mr. Instone had been a Member of the Institution since 1883.
His death occurred on 26th July 1931, at Bournemouth.
