THOMAS HENRY PARROTT was chairman and managing director of Messrs. Belliss and Morcom, Ltd., engineers, Birmingham; the firm was founded by his uncle, Mr. George E. Belliss, M.I.Mech.E.
Mr. Parrott served his apprenticeship under his uncle from 1882 to 1887, and afterwards acted as inspecting engineer at H.M. Dockyard, Devonport, where the firm was installing the engines for H.M. gunboats Sharpshooter, Spanker, Swordfish, and Spitfire.
Returning to the firm as works manager in 1892, he helped to reorganize the works and installed new machine tools for the manufacture of quick-revolution engines for electric light plants. Subsequently he was appointed general manager and was responsible for the manufacture of a large number of engines for electric lighting plants in various municipalities in England and abroad.
He became managing director of the firm in 1904, and chairman in 1930, both of which positions he held until his death, which occurred on 12th March 1938, at Barnt Green, Birmingham, at the age of 71. Mr. Parrott, who was elected a Member of the Institution in 1892, was always keenly interested in the training and technical education of engineers, and in 1937 was elected a life governor of the University of Birmingham.
