THOMAS FORDYCE was chief boiler engineer to the Ocean Accident and Guarantee Corporation, Ltd.
He was a native of Glasgow, where he received his technical education at the Royal Technical College. He served a five years' apprenticeship, terminating in 1898, with Messrs. Stewart and McKenzie, Ltd., of Pollokshaws, Glasgow, and then gained further experience in the workshops of Messrs. Shanks, Anderson and Company.
In 1899 he went to sea on Messrs. Cayzer, Irvine and Company's Clan Line steamers, later obtaining the Board of Trade extra first class engineer's certificate, and becoming second engineer in 1907.
