THOMAS CARTER BEELEY was born at Newton Moor, Hyde, on 10th October 1869.
He was educated at Stamford School, Ashton-under-Lyne, and at Southport, and attended classes at Owens College.
He served an apprenticeship of four years in the Hyde Junction Iron Works of his father, going through the shops and the drawing-office.
To gain further experience he worked for two years at the iron foundry of Messrs. W. H. Marland and Co., of Hyde, and the works of Messrs. Brooks and Doxey, of West Gorton, and spent a year in driving engines at various cotton mills.
He returned to his father's works in 1888 as foreman over the fitting department, and in 1890 he was appointed manager.
As his father relinquished his active management of the works owing to declining health, the son assumed control in 1898, and this position he held to the time of his death which took place at his residence at Gee Cross, near Manchester, on 9th June 1909, in his fortieth year.
He became a Member of this Institution in 1899.
