THOMAS BRIGHT MATTHEWS was born in Sheffield on 20th May 1844, being the son of the late Mr. W. A. Matthews, who was Mayor and Master Cutler of Sheffield.
He was a partner in the firm of Messrs. Turton Brothers and Matthews, of Sheffield, until the year 1897, when the business was converted into a private company. He then became one of the managing directors, which position he retained for several years.
For the last twenty years he had resided at Thorp Arch Hall, Thorp Arch, Yorkshire.
His death took place at Hanbury, near Burton-on-Trent, on 30th May 1912, at the age of sixty-eight.
He became an Associate of this Institution in 1868.
