THEODORE STEVENS, E.M., B.Met., who died in hospital at Herne Bay on the 18th October, 1954, was born on the 2nd April, 1865. He graduated from Lehigh in 1886.
From 1887 to 1892 he was engaged in development work on the electrolysis of aluminium fluoride for the Aluminium Company of America.
Then from 1893 to 1898, as Works Manager of the Thames Iron Works & Shipbuilding Company, he was in charge of the manufacture of electrical machinery, including locomotives.
In 1898 Mr Stevens joined the British Thomson Houston Company and was in charge, as Chief Engineer, of the electrification of the Central London railway.
From 1912 until his retirement he practised as a consulting civil, electrical, and mining engineer. Schemes with which he was concerned included hydro-electric developments in Argentina, electrification of the Sao Paulo railway (Brazil), the Aswan Dam, investigations into the water-power resources of Palestine and Ireland, the Channel Tunnel, and the London-Paris Railway. Later he sat on the Board of the Margate and East Kent Electricity Company.
