1880 Obituary [1]

This distinguished physicist and chemist died of apoplexy on the tenth of last month in New York.

A native of Brittany, he went to reside in Germany in early life, and devoted himself there to the study of chemistry, and especially of its application to the industrial arts.

During his residence he invented a commercially successful process for bleaching fabrics, and on his returning to Paris he established a large laboratory, and carried on business as a consulting and experimental chemist....[more]
