1858 Thomas Churchman Darby patented a horse hoe.
1862 Established a small works and smithy in Pleshy, nr Chelmsford.
1877 Produced their first land digger with the larger parts made by W. and S. Eddington.
1877 Built a steam digger and persevered with the design until the end of the century but was not successful.
1880 Produced another land digger but with parts from J. and H. McLaren.
Steevenson of the demised Eddington and Steevenson joined the company.
1895 By this date 20 diggers were made.
1898 Thirty diggers made by this date.
1900 The new Stileman's Works acquired at Wickford.
Formed the Darby Land Digger Syndicate of London to handle sales.
Later became Sidney C. Darby (Wickford).
