1946 'At Newcastle The new fluorescent auditorium lighting was installed at the Palace, Newcastle, last week and is a complete success. For the first time in any theatre this economical type of lighting can be raised and dimmed with barely a flicker, and any glare is nullified by the frosted glass fitted In the chandelier. It is a huge lantern, with six vertical tubes surrounding a white reflector, weighing some five cwt., and the roof of the theatre had to be strengthened to take it. The patent for the control of the lighting is held by Sturdy Electric Co.. Ltd of Dipton, near Newcastle'.[1]
