Strand Electric were the UK's and Europe's principal manufacturers of stage lighting and theatre equipment. They were absorbed by the Rank Organisation in the mid 1960s and now exist only as a brand name.

Their head of R&D Frederick Bentham was the designer of the Light Console and many Spotlights. They pioneered the use of die-cast mouldings for spotlight construction. During WWII they designed and manufactured TAT training simulators for the Royal Navy.
