STIRLING SMEATON, born at Norwood, South Australia, on the 30th October, 1860, died at Adelaide on the 12th March, 1909.
Graduating in Arts at the University of Adelaide, he served 7 years in the Public Works Department of South Australia.
Subsequently he was employed on various railway contracts in South Australia, Victoria, and Western Australia, eventually, after a long period of ill-health, re-entering the South Australian service as assistant surveyor and draughtsman.
Mr. Smeaton was elected an Associate Member of The Institution on the 5th December, 1892.
