Stephen Lewin of Lewin's Engineering Works, Poole Foundry, South Road, Poole, Dorset.

formerly Lewin, Wilkinson and Co

1874-82 Built a number of small locomotives for standard and narrow gauge working.

1874 1' 10" gauge locomotive used by the London Lead Company for working at Cornish Hush lead mine, Weardale. [1]

1875 22" gauge locomotive for a lead mine, featured in 'The Engineer' [2]

1876 Exhibitor at the Royal Agricultural Show at Birmingham but could show little of his vertical engines and boilers due to a recent fire at the works.

1877 Two single-cylinder engines named 'Malt' and 'Hops', made for Guinness and Co's Dublin brewery. 22" gauge. Capable of hauling a 16 ton load on a 1 in 30 gradient. The footplate could be readily removed to allow the engines to be taken to different levels by the hoists in the brewery [3]

1884 Stephen Lewin and James Welman of Poole Foundry declared bankrupt.[4]
