With his wife Rebecca Chivers (age 32 born Histon) and their six children; William Chivers (age 9 born Histon); Stephen Chivers (age 7 born Histon); Elizabeth Chivers (age 5 born Histon); John Chivers (age 3 born Histon); Esther Chivers (age 2 born Histon); and Thomas Chivers (age 6 months born Histon).[1]
1918 November. Died. 'We regret to announce that Mr. Stephen Chivers, one of the directors of the firm of Messrs. Chivers and Sons, Ltd., Histon, passed away quietly on Sunday morning at his residence. “Homefield,” Histon, after an illness extending over a considerable period. Owing to failing health, Mr. Chivers had not taken an active part in the business for some time past, but his loss will be sincerely mourned by the staff, and also by the villagers, with whom was very popular, his kindly disposition having endeared him to all with whom he came into contact. Mr. Chivers was a member of the County Council for over 12 years, representing the division. He was deacon of Histon Baptist Church, and a manager of Histon School...'[2]
